This is a simple, but quite sophisticated breathing prompting and training display designed mainly for home use. The trainer is a component of the overall Biofeedback Incentive System (tm) family of breathing pattern training products.

This is a stand-alone device suitable for any program where the respiratory rate needs to be controlled. As such it can be used to prevent and/or correct Dynamic Hyperinflation in patients with COPD / Emphysema / Asthma. It is also ideal for treating patients with Hyperventilation Syndrome.
Optimally used, the device is also a component of the overall BIS (tm) breathing pattern training and activation system.
Essentially, the BIS (tm) device teaches complex breathing patterns, and the simple portable audio-visual device triggers these learned breathing patterns.
This represents a transfer of a complex high technology program into the home and work environment by use of a simple device.
This is a new dimension of breathing control with several applications.

Sierra Biotechnology is pleased to offer a free download of a trial version of the Biofeedback Incentive Systemtm. This software is intended for private use, and has no time limitations. The system has been developed in the National Instruments LabVIEWtm environment and runs on a laptop computer.

Note carefully that BIStm is a GENERAL PURPOSE TOOL that may be used in a wide variety of respiratory diagnostic and therapeutic situations. Any requirement for patient breathing control, or patient breathing coordination with a mechanical device, is a potential candidate for use of this tool.
